Copenhagen

Last week whole MediaBizLab group was at Copenhagen. We had a small workshop, visits to companies and local business school. Even media business and entrepreneurship is not bound to location, it was nice to have see how things are done in Denmark. In familiar environment one can be blind to some interesting and important things.

We had our first meeting at Copenhagen since fall term and we decided what we will be doing next months in spring term. Our three student group will be doing recruitment tool with game mechanics. This idea came out when we developed Heikki’s idea about meeting random people in the Internet. After presenting our thoughts MBL crew gave feedback and we decided to move towards recruitment.

First place visit to was Podio. Podio is service about project management with similar user interface as Facebook. Also working logic is similar to social media and users can create, share and buy apps inside Podio. Service is surely worth of testing during spring term and our project. Interesting insight about start-up and product development was also presented. Breakthrough needs a lot of coding, prototyping and marketing, if it happens at all. Large customer base in public beta phase could help on this. Also other things about softwarebusiness and start-ups were mentioned, for example that updates should be released for small groups before doing public release.

Second company visit to was Politikens, which publish several newspapers in Denmark. Company has been doing intensive digital media development and we heard about that. They have researched customer behavior and media consumption, but also released several interesting apps and media services. However, there has been no breakthrough, but that is problem for every newspaper company in these days.

We will present our idea and progress during spring, so you should save this blog in your bookmarks or subscribe feed.
